As a member of Self Representing Artists, I do not support mass production of beads. I go a step beyond that. I promise that my beads won't be mass produced either. I promise never to sell tutorials of what makes my beads unique. So, if you are asked to pay an artist's price, your item will remain one of a kind. I think of the many collectors and designers who have purchased one of a kind beads by particular artists who years later sell their secrets to make even more money. Would they have paid that price had they known in the near future the method of creating those colors or patterns would be available to everyone? Of course it is an artists right to sell their secrets, but when the market is flooded with beads that used to be one of a kind - they lose their value. The people who once spent premium prices for those beads or designs have an item that is no longer one of a kind. This to me is mass production in itself and not in the spirit of the self representing artist. I promise that will not happen with my beads or any of my designs. |
